about inspiration...

are there new Ideas or just different people finding themselves in related universes of emotions, thoughts, expressions - and I found a curious definition about the word "inspiration": "divine guidance or influence exerted directly on the mind and soul of humankind", so, these are people whom I become to met and notice because I felt they had the same kind of similar "makeind" as me... or maybe I met them before I am... in a kind of parallel universe connected by what we call art... _________ in some how those are the kind of experiences that sometimes make me feel kind of espiritual beeing in this material world

Verifax collages

Interested in chance and spiritual mysticism, Wallace Berman made work rooted in metaphorical explorations. Between 1963 and 1976, he created a series of collages using the Verifax, an early copy machine, to alter found images and reproduce them in mesmerizing duotone grids. Untitled (Faceless Faces) is a grid of photographs of formally dressed couples posing for the camera. Run through the Verifax machine, the resulting reproductions of these photographs were wet, allowing the artist to smudge or erase the faces and identities of the figures. In the resulting collage, the couples have a ghostly presence, their countenances eerily faded and obscured.

Mira Schendel

a memória é uma mala de viagens

                  fotografias: Yuval Yairi

Yuval explains: 'The series of Memory Suitcases is a part of my project of investigating the subject of memory.
I took my suitcases on a photographic voyage around Israel in an old VW van, collecting with my camera some of the many stories left lying by the side of the road. Some of the images 'imprinted' on the suitcases, such as that of the tree house, echo childhood memories of Israel in the early 60s, memories common to a whole generation born before the Six Day War. Several of the suitcase images are of abandoned houses once belonging to Palestinian Arabs who escaped or were evacuated during the 1948 and 1967 wars. Some of the houses have remained untouched and decaying ever since; others have been inhabited by Jews who immigrated to Israel following the Second World War; others still are being converted into exclusive modern homes. All bear testimony to a far-from-remote history that we Israelis may try to forget, ignore or erase. Meanwhile, many Palestinians keep the keys to these houses, just as mementos, or in the hope of returning. A suitcase is perhaps the most potent and familiar image associated with migration, and for many different peoples an icon of wandering and displacement.'

Tracey Moffatt, da série Laudanum - 1998

exposição: Laudanum and Lip, 1999, http://www.roslynoxley9.com.au/artists/26/Tracey_Moffatt/61/
Moffatt's photographic series of works such as Pet Thang (1991) and Laudanum (1998) returned to the themes of Something More exploring mixed and sometimes obscure references to issues of sexuality, history, representation and race. Other series of images, notably Scarred for Life (1994) and Scarred for Life II (1999) again tackled these themes but which took the form of book or magazine illustrations with captions offering ironic and humorous commentaries on the images...

nota
Laudanum is known as a "whole opium" preparation since it historically contained all the opium alkaloids. Today, however, the drug is often processed to remove all or most of the noscapine (also narcotine) present as this is a strong emetic and does not add appreciably to the analgesic or anti-propulsive properties of opium; the resulting solution is called Denarcotized Tincture of Opium or Deodorized Tincture of Opium (DTO).
Laudanum remains available by prescription in the United States and theoretically in the United Kingdom, although today the drug's therapeutic indications are generally confined to controlling diarrhea, alleviating pain, and easing withdrawal symptoms in infants born to mothers addicted to heroin or other opioids. Recent enforcement action by the FDA against manufacturers of paregoric and opium tincture suggests that opium tincture's availability in the U.S. may be in jeopardy.

Fiber Art

Lenore Tawney (May 10, 1907 – September 24, 2007) was an America artist who became an influential figure in the development of fiber art. Born as Leonora Agnes Gallagher in Lorain, Ohio, Tawney's introduction to the tenets of the German Bauhaus school and the artistic avant-garde began in 1946 when she attended Laszlo Moholy-Nago's Chicago Institute of Design. She studied with Moholy-Nagy, cubist sculptor Alexander Archipenko and abstract expressionist painter Emerson Woelffer, among others, and in 1949, she studied weaving with Marli Ehrman. In 1957, she moved to New York City, where she became associated with a generation of artists including Ellsworth Kelly, Robert Indiana, Agnes Martin and Jack Youngerman. Since then, Tawney lived and worked mainly in New York City, where she died, aged 100. Widely known in the New York art world and beyond, she was the veteran of more than two dozen solo exhibitions in leading galleries and museums and she participated in dozens of important group exhibitions. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art as well as many other museums, universities and private art collections. Lenore Tawney's work has been exhibited at the Renwick Gallery, The Smithsonian, Washington, D.C.; the Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, Ohio; the Art Institute of Chicago,Chicago; the American Craft Museum, New York City; the Neuberger Museum of Art, Purchase, New York and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Netherlands, all of which have her works in their permanent collections. It focuses on the materials and on the manual labour on the part of the artist as part of the works' significance, and prioritizes aesthetic value over utility.
